In the middle of the Allegheny Mountains in a historic town called Hot Springs, Virginia lies the Omni Homestead Resort. It’s like a living history book. Thomas Bullitt, a land surveyor, opened it way back in 1766, 10 years before the United States was even born. This place is special because it’s the first-ever resort in America. Surrounded by natural springs, it recently got a $150-million makeover, and it’s better than ever.

The Omni Homestead Resort Was Renovated

The resort has changed a lot over the years but it’s always bounced back. It started with just 18 rooms made of wood and became one of the South’s favorite vacation spots. The current owners wanted to keep the old charm but also add some modern luxury, so in October they finished a big renovation to make everything in the resort new again.

The makeover, led by Wimberly Interiors, didn’t just freshen up the 483 guest rooms. It mixed the old and new, so it feels like going into the past but still has the comforts of a modern resort. Liana Hawes Young, the creative director, wanted to keep that family feel while making it cool for the next hundred years. The result is a mix of history and modernity.

Mixing History With Luxury

Each guest room has a Southern style with different colors in each wing. It’s like a rainbow of choices for visitors. The resort isn’t just about rooms, though. There are a bunch of restaurants offering different foods, from quick coffee at Martha’s Market to chill lunches at Jefferson’s Taproom. There’s always something to do, like golf, falconry, axe-throwing, or visiting the waterpark for families. In winter, guests can ski or skate, or enjoy the property’s cool hikes.

People who are into relaxing in hot springs will certainly like it here. They’ve been there since 1761, and the recent makeover kept them old but fresh. The Serenity Garden, just for adults, has mineral pools, a reflexology walk, and an infinity pool. Massages and facials are also available at the spa.

A Family-Friendly Getaway

Families love the place. With a kids’ club, movies every night, and special events for holidays, it’s perfect for all ages. The resort is in the Allegheny Mountains, and it’s easy to get there. The Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is just a two-hour drive away. Visiting during the shoulder season (fall and spring) is best if you want the best price.
