Picture the scene: it’s the dead of night and a full moon, imagined screams can be heard and shivers run down your spine. This is what people look for when watching horror movies. If you are a horror movie buff, then make sure to watch these five films.

It and Poltergeist

It is a remake of the old movie first released in November 1990 when Pennywise the Clown was portrayed by Tim Curry. In the new version, chills and horrors are in almost every scene, and the build-up over the 27-year span is outstanding.

Poltergeist stars late actress Heather O’Rourke, who plays the leading role of a child that the other side contacts through a television set. What ensues is enough to send anyone running to the hills. It also depicts how a mother’s love can conquer all. For the age of the movie, the special effects beat most other movies hands down. To this day, this movie has never been remade, as the star cast is what made it so special.

Saw and The Devil Rides Out

Many horror fans overlook the original Saw. This hit movie was produced as a low-budget flick, however, the series has grown a lot. The original portrayed two strangers who wake up in a locked room and don’t know why. What ensues is horror in its truest form.

Fans of Christopher Lee and his Dracula movies must see The Devil Rides Out. If you are into the occult and love the cringe-worthiness of this oldy-but-goody movie, then don’t miss it. The plot is about Christopher Lee’s character being a master in the occult and trying to rescue his friend from a dark occult that has taken over his life. This movie was originally a book series.

A Quiet Place

In a world filled with noise, it’s pretty horrifying to imagine a world where making any noise could attract monsters. But that’s exactly what A Quiet Place, John Krasinski’s smash film, is about. He and his wife, played by his real-life wife, do everything they can to save their children in a horrible world.

The horror genre has so many great films and so many duds that it can be hard to know what to watch and whether it’s worth it. These five films are a great place to start.
